I recently picked a new primary care doctor.  After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age. (I just turned 49.) 

  
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?' 

He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?' 
'Oh no,' I replied...  'I'm not doing drugs, either!' 

Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs? 
'I said, 'Not much... my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!' 

'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?' 
'No, I don't,' I said. 

He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?' 
'No,' I said. 

He looked at me and said,...  'Then, why do you even give a shit?

And Finally, if you notice the arrangement of the 13 stars in the rigt-hand circle you will see that they are arranged as a < I SPAN> Star of David. This was ordered by George Washington who, when he asked Hayim Solomon, a wealthy Philadelphia Jew, what he would like as a personal reward for his services to the Continental Army, Solomon said he wanted nothing for himself but that he would like something for his people. I always ask people,'Why don't you know this?' Your children don't know this, and their history teachers don't know this. Too many veterans have given up too much to ever let the meaning fade. "To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me.  It is the most - requested column I've ever written."  My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:  

1.   Life isn’t fair, but it's still good.
2.   When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3.   Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4.   Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in         touch.
5.   Pay off your credit cards every month.
6.   You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7.   Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8.   I’ts OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9.    Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10.  When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11.  Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

13.  Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
